Cleaning Methods
There are so many different cleaning methods that are talked about when it comes to cleaning your whole house. Recently, the idea of having a “Sunday Reset” has become very popular on social media. A “Sunday Reset” is where people take a few hours on Sunday to clean their entire house to make it ready for the week. If this concept works for you, awesome, but this doesn’t work for everyone. Some people simply don’t have a few hours on Sunday or any day to clean. Also, for me, the idea of cleaning everything in one day can feel a little intimidating and make me start to dread that cleaning day.
Another method that you can do is perform certain cleaning tasks on certain days. For example, you vacuum all the floors on Monday, wipe down surfaces on Tuesday, do laundry on Wednesday, clean appliances on Thursday, and declutter on Friday. You could extend this to the entire week, and you could switch out the chores on each day.
The final method that we will talk about in this blog is cleaning a specific room each day. For example, you clean the bedroom on Monday, living room on Tuesday, spare bedroom on Wednesday, bathroom on Thursday, and kitchen on Friday. This is what I have been doing for the past few weeks; however, I am moving in a few days to a bigger home, so I might have to switch it up. The routine I follow is to pick up the clutter, wipe down all surfaces, clean the floors, take out trash, and light a candle/make it smell good
At the end of the day, you just need to find a routine that will get you to clean your house regularly. Whether that looks like one of these methods or you create your own. Also, you need to find something that brings you joy while you clean, whether it’s listening to music, a podcast, or having a fun drink while you clean.
How often should I clean
It depends on the thing that you are cleaning. Different surfaces and items need to be cleaned at different frequencies. Some things should be cleaned every day, every week, every month, etc. This is what I do.
Every day
- Kitchen counters
- Kitchen sink
- Picking up/decluttering
Every week
- Floors (If you have kids or animals, it is probably best to do this every day as well)
- All other surfaces
- Fridge
- Shower
Every month
- Bedding (a lot of people do this every week, maybe I should start doing that…)
How to make my space feel clean
Okay, this is a big one for me. I don’t just want things to be clean, I want them to feel clean. Some days, regular decluttering and picking up counter tops does make a space feel clean, but sometimes it is just not enough.
Something that I do to help make my spaces feel clean is reorganizing/redecorating. Literally just moving a few things around helps me to feel like my space has been cleaned, and it just feels different and brings me joy. It makes me feel like I actually did something.
Best Cleaning Products
So I tried the Scrub Daddy pastes, and I love them. However, I also really like being able to spray something and just wipe it up with a rag. Instead of having to wet down a scrubber, get some paste, scrub the surface, wet down a rag, and wipe it off. It just becomes too much.
I am in a season of my life where I am just tired of chemicals. I am tired of chemicals being in everything and being everywhere. I just want things that are clean. Because of this, I have started creating my own sprays with just water, white vinegar, and some lemon essential oil. The smell of lemon just makes things smell clean and is awesome.
