This might sound very contradictory; however, the key to a perfect morning routine is being flexible. After you create a morning routine, once something stops working for you, you have to be willing to switch things up. You don’t want to feel like a slave to your morning routine; if it no longer works, change it.
However, there are some things that might need to stay within your morning routine, even if it might not be your favorite thing.
Things to consider when creating your morning routine
- What will make me feel good if I do them in the morning
- What are my priorities
- How much time do I need to accomplish these things in the morning
- What fits this season of my life
Common things to put in your morning routine
- Workouts
- Energizing drink
- Hydrating drink
- Breakfast
- Bible studies
- Making bed
- Getting ready
- Shower
At this season of my life, this is what my morning routine looks like:
Here is a little bit about me that goes into how I have formulated my morning routine for this season of my life.
- I am married, with no kids. I work at 8 am, and I live about 5 minutes away from my job.
My morning routine:
- 6:35 am- Wake up and make bed
- 6:40 am- Brush teeth, do a few refreshing skin care items (this includes putting on under-eye masks, I find the chill in these helps me to wake up)
- 6:45 am- Make coffee (I usually make a homemade iced latte)
- 6:55 am- Do Bible study
- 7:15 am- Short at-home workout
- 7:30 am- Finish getting ready (skin care, makeup, get dressed, etc)
- 7:40 am- Make a smoothie and an electrolyte water
- 7:50 am- Leave for work
Why have a morning routine:
I find that having a morning routine helps me to have a better day going forward. I am more awake and energized when I get to work or to whatever I am doing that day. This helps me to be more productive and kinder to those I encounter that day.
I also find that when I have a morning routine that I enjoy, it is much easier to get out of bed in the morning. When my alarm goes off, I look forward to the coffee that I get to make and the Bible study I get to read.

This espresso machine has DRASTICALLY improved my morning routines as well as saved my bank account. Once I started making my own coffee with this espresso machine, I genuinely prefer making coffee at home rather than going out! This one is only $100 and works great. I have formed a love for under-eye masks. They remain cold even when they are in the drawer, and that chill truly wakes me up in the morning. I have tried this brand and love it! Click here if you would like some.
Wait, Jess, you get up at 6:35?!? Alas…
I do!
